Towards a discursive perspective on pedagogical reflection: An analysis of attitude and graduation in reflection reports on pre-service teaching practicum
Main Article Content
Abstract
Despite the role of pedagogical reflection in teacher development, this phenomenon has been explored mainly from the perspective of internal processes within the individual. A less explored perspective is that which considers the linguistic realization of pedagogic reflection. This work aims to understand how different evaluative discursive resources construe the evaluative dimension of pedagogical reflection. To this end, a case study is proposed that focuses on the analysis of three reports written by a future Language and Literature teacher during her pre-service practicum. This analysis considered the categories of ATTITUDE and GRADUATION developed within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics. These categories allowed us to observe the construction of a position on the teacher's capacity, based on the appraisal of different aspects of her classroom experience. These findings illustrate the role of discursive mechanisms in the construction of pedagogical reflection.
