La Nueva Revista del Pacífico adheres to the ethical principles and editorial good practices formulated by the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). This means that all actors involved in the editorial process are committed to avoid bad practices such as plagiarism, falsification or misrepresentation of data, as well as defamation of individuals, groups of society or institutions. Likewise, potential conflicts of interest between the parties involved will be warned.

The journal ensures that the entire publication process of its contents is conducted following high ethical standards, which implies responsibilities for the editorial team, as well as for authors and evaluators.

The Editorial Team is committed to:

- Ensure that the evaluation process through external peers follows double-blind standards, respecting at all times the anonymity of authors and evaluators, as well as the confidentiality of communications and documents that are shared with the Editorial Team.

- Oversee that the evaluation and editorial processing of manuscripts is conducted with transparency and regularity, informing authors in a timely manner about the opinion issued by external peers.

- Supervise that the opinions issued by the evaluators are respectful and that they constitute a contribution to improve the writing of the manuscripts.

- Ensure that the published material does not infringe the intellectual rights of third parties, for which the Turnitin program will be used to control any similarities between the manuscripts and documents already published in other media.

Authors agree to:

- Submit original and unpublished texts, which have not been published or are not in the process of evaluation in other journals or media.

- To develop their arguments with scientific rigor, assuming an impartial position before their objects of study, without disqualifying or defaming individuals, groups of society or institutions on grounds of gender or sexual orientation, ethnic origin, social class, religious beliefs or ideological positions.

- Properly cite the intellectual material of others, trying to avoid plagiarism or infringement of the property rights of third parties.

- Incorporate the suggestions made by peer reviewers, when manuscripts have been approved with modifications.

- Declare the institutional sources of financing that have facilitated or influenced the results of the research presented.

- Collaborate reciprocally with the evaluation of manuscripts received by the journal in future issues, if they are related to their lines of research or areas of specialization.

Peer reviewers undertake to:

- Rigorously and timely review the manuscripts sent to them, according to the deadlines proposed by the Editorial Team.

- Issue clear and respectful observations that are a contribution to the author.

- Communicate in a timely manner to the Editorial Team when they do not feel sufficiently qualified or do not have the necessary time to review the manuscript.

- Disqualify themselves from continuing to review a manuscript when they suspect possible conflicts of interest.

- Protect the confidentiality of the manuscript, so that it is not shared or disclosed to third parties.

Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI)

Neither the Editorial Team nor the peer reviewers are authorized to use Artificial Intelligence tools to evaluate, process or edit manuscripts. Likewise, the journal will not accept the use of this type of tool by authors. If their use is verified, manuscripts will be returned and the evaluation process will be suspended.

Handling of unethical practices, appeals and complaints

The journal is open to receive complaints or appeals about unethical conduct that may be associated with members who participate in the editorial process. In the event that a conflict of interest, a situation of plagiarism, falsification of information or defamation is recognized, any person may report it to the Editorial Team.

This report will treat confidentially the information associated with the parties involved and must provide credible evidence to initiate an investigation. If such is the case, the Editorial Team will create an ad hoc commission to process and evaluate the complaint, composed of members of the Editorial Committee or members of the Department of Literature and Linguistics of the Universidad de Playa Ancha.

In addition to the above, the Editorial Team will also contact the accused person, so that he/she can defend him/herself, rectify or clarify the situation.

If the malpractice or unethical conduct is proven, such information will be declared in the “Announcements” section. Depending on the seriousness of the matter, an addendum may be included in the original article, explaining the situation; or the article may even be removed from the journal's collection.
